“The tiny community of Cherry Creek, with only about 30 residents, may be hit by a big increase in its water rates.
There’s been a heated battle between residents, most of them retired or disabled, and Ray Bick, owner of the Cherry Creek Water District, since he filed a rate increase request earlier this year. Cherry Creek is about 45 miles from Ely.
Now Bick, the staff of the state Public Utilities Commission and the Bureau of Consumer Protection have signed a stipulation allowing rates to be increased from $20 a month to $68. That’s in lieu of the $102 originally sought. … “
